What is CBC?

If you want to know more about CBC and what CBC is? Then continue reading this article.

Besides THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), CBC or cannabichromene is another common cannabinoid in cannabis. CBC is considered one of the six most important cannabinoids, but still does not receive as much attention as CBD and THC. Scientists are still discovering more of the secrets that CBC and the other cannabinoids have to offer us humans. So far, the results look promising, but don't get too excited about looking for high-CBC cannabis strains just yet. The studies are still few and far between.

Like CBD, CBC does not get you high or give you a heavy feeling like THC does. It is a non-psychoactive substance, but still has a number of potential health benefits. CBC binds poorly to the CB1 receptors in the brain, unlike THC which specifically targets and binds to these receptors. CBC binds more to vanilloid receptor 1 (TRPV1) and transient receptor ankyrin 1 (TRPA1), which are associated with pain perception. When you receive CBC, it binds to these receptors and helps increase your body's natural endocannabinoids.

Like other cannabinoids and endocannabinoids, CBC works better when combined with other cannabinoids, according to researchers. There are not many studies on how CBC works with other cannabinoids like CBD or THC, but studies on how CBD and THC work together are optimistic. The growth of legal markets for medical marijuana and the ongoing legalisation of marijuana around the world are leading to an increase in research and studies.

The medical potential of CBC

Although research is still lacking in this area, studies have already been conducted that have found that CBC and other cannabinoids have some medicinal potential. Although marijuana has been used medicinally for centuries, it was classified as a narcotic in the early 1900s, which put research into how it works in our bodies and how cannabinoids affect the endocannabinoid system on the back burner.

  • CBC and cancer - CBC has the potential to be a very powerful ally in the fight against cancer. This is because of the way CBC interacts with our endocannabinoid system and how it works with anandamide. CBC can slow down the uptake of anandamide into the bloodstream, allowing it to circulate in our bodies for longer. A recent study showed that CBC can slow down inflammation and inhibit tumour growth. Since anandamide has been shown to fight breast cancer, it stands to reason that any compound that keeps anandamide in our bloodstream longer could be an ally in the fight against breast cancer.
  • CBC, pain and inflammation - CBC has been shown to inhibit both inflammation and pain associated with osteoarthritis. Using cannabinoids can be a healthier way to manage pain and inflammation and avoid the unpleasant side effects associated with prescription medications and opioid painkillers.
  • CBC and brain cells - A 2013 study in mice found that CBC has a positive effect on neural stem cells. NSPC cells are essential for healthy brain function. This could be an important breakthrough in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
  • CBC and acne - Many cannabinoids, including CBC, have shown promising results in people suffering from acne. CBC can be a powerful inhibitor of acne and other skin problems
  • CBC and depression - Like other cannabinoids, CBC seems to work well in combination with THC and CBD to combat mental disorders such as anxiety, stress, ADD, PTSD and depression.
