CBD for animals: our university research and the wider evidence
Supporting university research into CBD and other cannabinoids in animals since 2019. Our collaboration with the University of Bologna investigates where cannabinoids may act in animal tissues. These studies did not test the Pet Routine oils or establish their starting amounts.

Questions about CBD oils for animals
Which CBD oil should I choose for my animal?
Choose the product labelled for your animal: Pet Routine for Cats (3% CBD), Pet Routine for Dogs (5% CBD and 0.5% CBG), or Pet Routine for Horses (10% CBD and 1% CBG). The strongest concentration is not automatically the best choice. Do not substitute one animal’s formula for another.
What is different about the three formulas?
All three use an MCT carrier, have a 0% THC specification and come in 30 ml bottles. The cat oil contains 900 mg CBD. The dog oil contains 1,500 mg CBD plus 150 mg CBG. The horse oil contains 3,000 mg CBD plus 300 mg CBG.
How many drops should I start with?
For the cat and dog oils, start with 1–2 drops, 1–2 times per day. For the horse oil, start with 1–3 drops, 1–3 times per day. Adjust gradually over time according to your animal’s response and your vet’s advice. Follow the directions supplied with the selected product.
Are these the 2026 formulas?
Yes. These are our 2026 Pet Routine formulas for cats, dogs and horses. Formula Swiss has produced CBD products in Switzerland since 2013. Older customer reviews may describe earlier formulas.
Are these registered veterinary medicines?
No. Pet Routine oils are not registered veterinary medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. They are not a substitute for veterinary care or prescribed treatment.
Can I use CBD alongside my animal’s medicines?
Ask your vet before use, especially if your animal takes medicines or has a health condition. CBD can interact with medicines. Do not stop or change prescribed treatment. Do not use in pregnant or breeding animals, and stop use if an adverse reaction occurs.
Can I mix the oils to qualify for the bottle savings?
No. The 10% discount applies to 3 or more bottles of the same eligible oil, and the 20% discount applies to 5 or more bottles of that oil. Cat, dog and horse bottles do not count together towards one tier. Discounts apply automatically.
Where can I find reviews, studies and laboratory reports?
Each animal’s collection page has the relevant reviews or clearly labelled company feedback, plus its research library. Each product page has the ingredient table, directions and laboratory report under Testing & certifications. Research publications did not test these Pet Routine formulas.
